The First Secretary, Yasser Abdul Aziz, delivered the statement of Iraq at the Third Committee on item 71, entitled Indigenous peoples ‘rights.He points out to the multiplicity and evolution of indigenous peoples’ rights mechanisms under international law, including human rights treaties. However, many indigenous peoples continue to face many obstacles in the field of human rights and their rights are in fact far from perfect, with some of the most important challenges such as the pressures placed on their lands, territories and resources as a result of activities related to development and extraction of resources as well as the cultures of these peoples are still under threat. The Government of the Republic of Iraq reaffirmed its keenness and support for the right of peoples to enjoy a decent living opportunities in line with the goals of sustainable development, which considered as the platform through which human rights could be further promoted
