Permanent Representative meets his Estonian counterpart

On Wednesday, May 6 2020, The Permanent Representative of Iraq, Ambassador Mohammed Hussein Bahr Al-Uloom, met his Estonian counterpart, Ambassador Sven Jürgenson, who presides over the Security Council for the current month of May, regarding the Security Council session that will be held on 12 May 2020 to discuss the reports of the Secretary-General regarding the situation in Iraq and the situation between Iraq and Kuwait.

The permanent Representative started the meeting by expressing his hope to get full support from Estonia to face the great challenges facing Iraq, where he gave an overview of the challenges and risks surrounding Iraq, the most important of which are (terrorism, low oil prices, regional instability, violations of Iraqi sovereignty, the file of the displaced, and the Corona pandemic), referring to the identical messages that Iraq has sent to both the Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council since January 2020 regarding violations of Iraqi sovereignty, calling on the Council to assume its responsibility to stop these violations.

Ambassador Bahr Al-Uloom also pointed to the recent political developments in Iraq, the most important of which are the efforts to form the government. The Ambassador called on the Council to reinforce efforts to support Iraq in the war on terrorism in light of the escalation of fierce attacks from the terrorist group ISIS.
