The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Iraq to the United Nations, Ambassador Mohammed Hussein Bahr Al-Uloom met with the Regional Director of the Arab States at the United Nations Population Fund, UNFPA Dr. Luay Shabana. The meeting dealt with a number of related issues, including:
1- Iraq Country Document submitted by UNFPA 2020-2024:
The Permanent Representative expressed Iraq’s welcome to this document and also conveyed the Iraqi authority’s satisfaction that the Fund’s considered its observations on this document. For his part, Mr. Shabana affirmed that the Fund takes the notes received from the Iraqi side very seriously and that he will review these notes with the competent Iraqi authorities, looking forward to the support of Iraq of this document.
The Permanent Representative stressed the importance of the census process in Iraq, as it will be reflected in the development of realistic development plans, taking into consideration the population realities in Iraq, and that Iraq looks forward to the important role that the Fund plays in accomplishing this task.
Mr. Shabana stressed that the issue of the census occupies a priority for the Fund’s work in Iraq and that all preparations for this process are ongoing and in coordination with the relevant Iraqi authorities, stressing that the atmosphere has become ready for this important practice.
At the end of the meeting, the ambassador assured that the mission will spare no effort in coordinating and supporting the fund’s work in Iraq.
