on 28 September 2018, Iraq’s delegation represented by Ambassador Farid Yassin participated in the high-level event entitled “Protection of religious minorities in the Middle East: Highlighting the situation of persecuted Christians” organized by the Hungarian Mission to the United Nations under the chairmanship of the Hungarian Foreign Minister.

The ambassador delivered the statement of Iraq, referring to the diverse civilization and human aspects that created Mesopotamia, stressing that Iraq, without Christians, is not an Iraq. Iraqi society is beyond religion and ideology, and that Iraq is doing all it can to preserve all its components and return the immigrants to their areas of residence. He praised the international partners who have assisted Iraq in tackling terrorism, and called the international communities to continue their efforts in the post-liberation phase to reconstruct the liberated areas and ensure the return of all components of the Iraqi people to their original cities, where they have lived for thousands of years.
