Third Secretary Ali Mohammed delivered the statement of the Republic of Iraq to the Third Committee during the interactive dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on minorities, in which he point s out the measures taken by the Government of the Republic of Iraq to ensure the minorities rights, including the elimination of the negative effects of the policies of the former regime, return of their property and the allocation of lands to build new places of worship, Compensate who was affected by terrorism, and teach their own religious and language ​​in the school.

Also, he stressed that the rights of all minorities in Iraq is a duty that cannot be ignored. It is one of the national and humanitarian duties of an important segment of the Iraqi people because they suffered as the majority of Iraqis suffered from the scourge of war and terrorism.

 First Secretary, Yasser Abdul Aziz Mohammed, delivered the intervention of the Republic of Iraq to the Third Committee during the interactive dialogue with the Chairperson of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Committee and the Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, In which he referred to the discrimination and obstacles that a large group of persons with disabilities are facing through integrating into the general education system, opportunities of employment justice and in the selection of medical treatment.

Also, he stressed on the keenness of the Republic of Iraq on the principle of non-discrimination towards persons with disabilities through the accession of Iraq to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in 2013, and the establishment of the Authority for the care of persons with disabilities and special needs, that aims to achieving care for this segment of society and eliminate discrimination against them, secure a decent life for them, to create jobs for them in the State departments in all sectors and to spread a culture of respect for disability as part of human diversity and human nature.

On 22/10/2017, the delegation of Iraq participated in the meetings of the First Committee of the General Assembly 73rd session in the discussions under nuclear weapons, in which first secretary Mr. Anas Abdul Latif delivered the statement of Iraq.

He pointed out that the total and final elimination of nuclear weapons is the only guarantee of not to use these weapons. Also, he pointed out that the international community must work together to achieve the universality of the relevant conventions and contribute to the final elimination of these deadly weapons, in a way that enhances international peace and security.

Iraq reaffirms the importance of the establishment of nuclear-weapon-free zones, especially in the Middle East, and that any attempt to establish such a zone must be preceded by fundamental steps, including the nuclear disarmament of the Israeli entity and joining the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons as a non-nuclear party as well as the subordination of its nuclear facility to the comprehensive safeguards regime of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Mr. Anas also highlighted the importance of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) as an extremely important instrument for strengthening international efforts to achieve the objective of nuclear disarmament. Furthermore, the importance of this treaty to Iraq a facilitator along with Kingdom of Belgium to article 14 of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization on the entry into force of the Treaty.

The Permanent Representative delivered the statement of Iraq at the open dialogue session of the Security Council on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian case on 18/10/2018, in which he supported efforts to achieve peace and stability in the Middle East, Stressing Iraq’s support for the cause of the Palestinian people and their struggle for their rights.He urged the international community to ensure the protection of Palestinian civilians according to the United Nations resolutions, and calls on Member States that have not yet recognized Palestine and its capital East Jerusalem to do so as soon as possible.

The First Secretary, Yasser Abdul Aziz, delivered the statement of Iraq to the Third Committee during the interactive dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on the protection and promotion of human rights during counter-terrorism under item 74. He pointed out that counter-terrorism measures must comply with the rules of international law, in particular human rights law, refugee law and international humanitarian law, which prevent terrorist organizations and elements to continue their crimes and abuses against the innocent, Stressing from this point of view, for the importance of full respect for human rights norms under any circumstances. the fundamental basis for combating terrorism is to ensure and respect human rights for all and adherence to the rule of law

The attaché, Zahra Nasrallah, delivered the statement of the Republic of Iraq to the Third Committee during the interactive dialogue with the Chairman of the Committee against Torture and the Special Rapporteur on torture She referred, in her statement, to the national legislation and laws such as the National Constitution and the Iraqi Penal Code No. 111 of 1969 prohibited the law enforcement officials and those conducting investigations from practicing any kind of torture. Also, she points out that; there are channels from the supervisory bodies responsible for receiving complaints about cases of torture, and that the provisions of Iraqi law allow anyone who is harmed in any way to recourse to the judiciary to demand compensation.She added that; Iraq is a party to the Convention against Torture and a member of the initiative of Convention against Torture (CTI) in Geneva, which is a global initiative launched in March 2014 in Geneva to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the united Nations Convention against Torture. The main objective of this initiative is to assist States in ratifying or implementing the international commitments contained in the said Convention and aspiring to achieve them within 10 years of its establishment.
