The United Nations commemorated the 15th anniversary of the terrorist attack on the headquarters of the United Nations Mission at Al-Canal Hotel in Baghdad on August 19, 2003. This terrorist act led to the death of Mr. Sergio de Mello, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and 22 staff of the United Nations Mission, which considered the first of its kind that targeted the United Nations headquarters.

The Secretary-General of the United Nations along with Permanent Representative of the Republic of Iraq to the United Nations participated in wreath-laying and to stand a moment of silence in honor of the victims and remembrance of their lives as well as condemnations of this terrorist attack.

The Permanent Representative spoke with one of the Iraqi survivor of this terrorist act.
