 On the sideline of the General Assembly’s meetings, Permanent Representative of the Mission of Iraq, the under-secretary of the Secretary General for the 73th session Ambassador Mohammed Hussein Bahrain AlUloom headed the the high level meeting on the non-communicable diseases  on 28 September 2018.

Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Eshaiker al-Jaafari participated in the 42nd annual meeting of the Group of 77 and China which held at the UN headquarters in New York on the sidelines of the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly. In this meeting elected Palestine for the presidency of the group for 2019. The meeting was attended by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, UN Secretary-General, the President of UN General Assembly and all ministers of the members states of the Group .

Dr. Ibrahim Al-Jaafari Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq meets with the Mr. Alistair Bert Secretary of State for the Middle East and North Africa in New York.

 He points out the need to increase the trade cooperation between the two countries. “Britain has contributed in the training of Iraqi staffs in several areas and we emphasize the need for continued exchange of experience” H.E. mentioned.

The bilateral relations Between Baghdad and London was reviewed at the meeting, and ways to strengthen it to serve the interests of the two friendly peoples.

Dr. Al-Jaafari said that Iraq has emerged victorious in its fight against the terrorist gangs of ISIS with the support of friendly countries, and it looks for its continued support in rebuilding the infrastructure of Iraqi cities.

“In the past, Britain has contributed to the training of Iraqi staffs in several areas, and we emphasize the need for continued work, coordination and exchange of experience between the two countries.” He added

He calls to increase the trade and investment in Iraq, pointing out that Britain has support Iraq in several sectors.

For his part, the Secretary of State for the Middle East and North Africa, Mr. Alistair Burt, stressed that his countryis keen to support Iraq in various fields, and expressed his Government’s desire to complete the necessary steps to form the new Iraqi government in the coming days; to maintain what has been achieved Great victories against terrorism, the elimination of corruption, the provision of investment opportunities, and the advent of British companies to work in Iraq.

The delegation of Iraq participated in the commemoration of the International Day for the elimination of nuclear weapons, held in New York on 26/9/2018.

Ambassador Hazem Yousfi, Head of Legal and Multilateral Affairs of Iraq, made a statement in which he referred to the catastrophic effects that could be caused by the use of nuclear weapons.

He noted that the actions taken by the Iraqi Government, in cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), in the final disposal of remnants of the former nuclear programm in Iraq.

On Monday 25/9/2.18, the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Iraq took part in the high-level event held at the UN headquarters in New Yorkو sponsored by British Prime Minister Teresa Marie May, French President Emmanuel Macron and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, titled “Starting the Countdown to the implementation of the sustainable Development goals for the next 12 years to break the barriers to not leaving the girls behind us ” The aim of the event was to promote, support and empower girls and women in all areas and not to leave them behind to achieve the sustainable Development goals for the year 2030.

The delegation of Iraq, represented by Ambassador Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Husseini, head of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences, participated in the High-level conference on the fight against Tuberculosis (TB). continue reading…

The delegation of Iraq  represented by Ambassador Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Husseini, head of the Department of International Organizations and conferences co-chaired the High-Level event entitled “Civilians under fire: humanitarian protection and respect for international humanitarian law”, organized by the European Union, the Kingdom of Belgium and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

The event highlighted the importance of respect by all parties to the conflict for international humanitarian law and the protection of civilians, medical personnel and relief personnel during armed conflict, and that the protection of children is the responsibility of all, which is not limited to respect for international humanitarian law but a human value that must respected by all. Participants urged all States to play a greater role in halting the funding of conflicting parties and the obligation not to recruit children under the age of 18 years.
