The delegations of the Ministry of Foreign affairs participated in the discussion of item 65 (Permanent sovereignty of the Palestinian people in the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem, and of the Arab population in the occupied Syrian Golan over their natural resources), which was held on 24 October 2018 at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
First Secretary, Mr. Imad Mohamed John, delivered the Statement of Iraq, in which he affirmed the right of the Palestinians and the inhabitants of the occupied Golan to their natural resources, land and sovereignty. Furthermore, they have the right to claim compensation for the exploitation, loss, depletion and endangerment of their natural resources in any way because of the illegal measures exercised by the Israeli occupying Power.
Today the global works to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals 2015 – 2030, but this plan is far from the people of Palestine and the occupied Golan, as a result of the practices of the Israeli occupation forces and its destructive role in all aspects of life.
Also, he reiterated Iraq’s firm position in its full support for the rights of the Syrian population in the occupied Golan over their land and resources, as well as the rights of the Palestinian people, in particular their right to establish an independent State with East Jerusalem as its capital.
