Iraqi Delegation delivers the statement of Iraq on item 69 on the report of the Human Rights Council as part of the 73rd session of the United Nations General AssemblyNov 5
On 2018/11/2, Second Secretary Nian Fuad Hama Khurshid delivered the statement of the Republic of Iraq to the Third Committee in item 69 on the report of the Human Rights Council.
The statement referred that the Constitution of the Republic of Iraq includes several human rights-sensitive paragraphs, which had been strengthened by a series of legislation and laws relating to human rights. The Government of the Republic of Iraq has acceded to eight basic international human rights instruments and two optional protocols. Furthermore it has fulfilled its international obligations by submitting its national reports to the universal periodic review mechanism and the human rights treaty bodies. Iraq has extended an open invitation to all special rapporteurs and special mandate holders to visit Iraq in the belief of transparency and compliance with international human rights standards and procedures.
The election of Iraq to the Human Rights Council for the period 2017-2019 reflects the confidence of the international community in its role in the promotion and protection of human rights and its commitment to implement its international commitments. In the event of reelection, Iraq seeks to effectively implement the objectives of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda to continue to support initiatives for the advancement and empowerment of women and to work towards ensuring harmony between cultures, religions and civilizations.
