The delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs participated in the discussion of agenda item 17 (Information and communication technology for sustainable development) sessions, which was held on 19 October 2018 at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
First secretary Mr. Mohammed Samir delivered the statement of Iraq.He pointed out that the Iraqi government has developed a national strategy for communication and information technology, through which it aims to promote modern science and technology in order to achieve sustainable development by 2030. It sought to find new technological horizons that meet the requirements of development, and keep pace with the tremendous progress in this area as well as to reduce the gap with the developed countries of the world.
On the other hand, he thanked all the countries and institutions that stood with Iraq and contributed to the strengthening of its plans and the reconstruction of its research and scientific centers and universities, which contributed to bridging the gap caused by terrorism. He urged the international community to provide more technological and scientific support to compensate for the loss of Iraq and to keep up with the scientific and technological progress, so that Iraq will be an active part of the practical and technological system that contributes to achieving the goals of sustainable development 2030.
