The delegations of the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs participated in the meetings of the Special Political and Decolonization Committee (Fourth Committee) to discuss items 59-63 on decolonization issues around the world.

    Ms. Zakia Riad Al-Adhami (First Secretary) addressed the Committee through referring to the importance of granting the peoples and territories under colonial rule of all their legitimate rights as enshrined in Article 73 of UN Charter, the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Also, the Delegation of Iraq urged the Member States to cooperate with the UN in order to end all forms of colonialism which are incompatible with UN Charter and prejudicing the dignity of the peoples living in the 17 non self governing territories. As well as inviting Member States to fully support the Special Committee on Decolonization, raising international cooperation and unifying efforts to protect the human rights of the people living in the above-mentioned territories. The Delegation of Iraq reiterated the importance of providing the necessary resources to finance the expanded programs of assistance to the peoples of the territories and the responsibility of the Administering Powers to promote sustainable economic and social development in the territories by promoting sustainable and inclusive economic and social growth, and supporting sustainable administration of natural resources.
