The delegation of Iraq  represented by Ambassador Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Husseini, head of the Department of International Organizations and conferences co-chaired the High-Level event entitled “Civilians under fire: humanitarian protection and respect for international humanitarian law”, organized by the European Union, the Kingdom of Belgium and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

The event highlighted the importance of respect by all parties to the conflict for international humanitarian law and the protection of civilians, medical personnel and relief personnel during armed conflict, and that the protection of children is the responsibility of all, which is not limited to respect for international humanitarian law but a human value that must respected by all. Participants urged all States to play a greater role in halting the funding of conflicting parties and the obligation not to recruit children under the age of 18 years.
